Vic My Place Camp Out: Reconnecting CommUNITY

Last weekend, something truly magical unfolded in the heart of Victoria’s bushland: the very first Vic My Place Camp Out. This event, organised by the passionate and community-focused team behind My Place, brought people together for a weekend of connection, fellowship, and a renewed sense of unity. We sat down with the organisers to learn more about how this inspiring idea came to life and the incredible effort it took to make it happen.

The Spark Behind the Idea

When asked how the concept for the campout began, the organizers shared a heartfelt story. “Over the years, we’ve seen a growing need to reconnect people in meaningful ways. My Place has always been about fostering relationships, and we wanted to take that spirit beyond weekly gatherings and events. We thought, what better way than a weekend immersed in nature, where people can truly let go, relax, and bond?”

The inspiration was clear: to bring UNITY back to CommUNITY. The idea wasn’t just about camping; it was about creating a space where people of all walks of life could come together, share stories, and rekindle the spirit of togetherness in a disconnected world.

Planning the Dream

Pulling off an event like this was no small feat. The team shared insights into the planning process, from scouting the perfect location to crafting a weekend program that catered to all ages and interests.

Once the perfectly suitable location was secured, the logistics began: organising workshops, live music, sound healing sessions, and a community market.

“We aimed for a balance of structure and spontaneity,” they said. “We created a program with plenty to do but also gave people time to simply enjoy being together.”

Overcoming Challenges

Like any event, the campout faced its share of challenges. Limited internet and reception at the site meant old-fashioned communication and planning were key. The weather didn’t cooperate either and some of the planned areas were under water and unsuitable for the planned events.

“There were moments where we thought, ‘Will this all come together?’ But the support from the community was incredible. Everyone pitched in, moved onto “plan b” and it truly felt like a group effort,” they said.

Achieving the Vision

The result? A weekend that exceeded everyone’s expectations. “The connections made were so genuine. You could see people letting go of daily stresses and just being present,” one organiser reflected. “We achieved exactly what we set out to do: bringing people together in unity.”

From heartfelt conversations around the campfire to shared learning and laughter during workshops and the soothing sounds of nature blending with live music, the Vic My Place Camp Out was a testament to the power of fellowship.

Moving Forward

So, what’s next for Vic My Place? “We’re already dreaming about the next campout,” the team shared with a smile. “The response has been so positive, and people are eager to do it again. This was just the beginning.”

A Community Reunited

The Vic My Place Camp Out wasn’t just an event; it was a movement—a chance to step away from the busyness of life and rediscover the beauty of human connection in a natural setting.

If you missed this year’s campout, don’t worry. As the organisers say, “This is just the start of something much bigger.” Stay tuned for future events, and join the growing My Place community in bringing UNITY back to CommUNITY.
